Edna Mather, founder of Mather Insurance & Real Estate Ltd., knows just how hard it is to break into the Old Boys' Club! In 1958 this enterprising woman opened her own business, being a pioneer in a field that had been primarily dominated by men. As a business woman in a man's world, she fully expected discrimination because she was a woman, but refused to let it be a drawback. She decided to do it her way!

Although real estate was, and still is the field that interests her more, in 1959, she added insurance to her already prospering business. The company thrived and Edna's husband Oris joined the business in 1970 gradually taking over the insurance. Edna confesses, "I couldn't have done this without the support of my husband." Oris continued to lend his support until 1995 when he passed away, leaving Edna to continue the journey. Today, Edna has the support of her daughter Wendy who operates the Insurance side of the business and her granddaughter Sarah has joined the Real Estate.
