My Insurance Shopper.ca Privacy Policy
Collection, Use and Disclosure of personal information at MyInsuranceShopper.ca

My Insurance Shopper website is an online resource for insurance consumers, and provides insurance information, coverage explanations, and a quoting service for consumers. This website is provided by Independent Broker Resources Inc, in collaboration with the Insurance Brokers Associations of Ontario, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia on behalf of their members, being independent insurance brokers. Consumers wishing to contact an insurance broker following their quote have the option of forwarding their information to the insurance broker of their choice to assist in the creation of an insurance policy tailored to fit their insurance needs.

Consumers wishing to receive an online quote on this website will be required to complete an application. The information collected in this application is required to estimate the premium, with reasonable accuracy, for insurance products that cover your specific insurance needs.

We also use information provided by you in an aggregated format to determine the effectiveness of our website, and to improve our consumer’s online experience. We look at general reports of such things as the number of quotations given in a single month, how many were completed or abandoned, or how many consumers elected to forward their information to an insurance broker to discuss their quote, amongst other things.

Should you select to save your quote, we will maintain a record of the information you provided to us for seven (7) days from the day on which you received such quote. A quote reference number will be provided to you. You will be able to re-access this information at any time during the seven days using the quote reference number provided. Following the seven (7) day time period, your personal information will be deleted, and will not be restored.

Promotions and Contests
From time to time on the website, we may run promotions whereby we will ask participants to provide personal information to be entered into a draw. When participating in a contest or promotion, we may ask you for your name, date of birth, gender, e-mail address, country and postal code, or other personal information. This information is used solely for the purpose of the specific promotion or contest. These promotional campaigns are entirely voluntary in nature, and consumers can opt not to participate and thereby not provide their personal information to us. Information provided to us for the purposes of the promotion will be used solely for that promotion, and specifics of this usage will be explained within the individual “contest rules” of each promotion.

We also have short questionnaires within the website asking consumers to tell us what their thoughts are about insurance, or even to test their level of insurance knowledge. These questionnaires compile results anonymously, and are used in an aggregated fashion only.

With the exception of providing the option to our consumers to forward their information to an insurance broker of their choice following an insurance quotation, we do not provide any information collected within this website to any third party vendor or marketer.

If you experience a loss that exceeds your deductible, ask your broker what the impact might be on your premiums if you make a claim. The best advice might be to absorb the cost yourself in exchange for lower premiums in the long term.
